The Challenge
The Pilbara Ports Authority sought a contractor capable of relocating a section of sea wall and executing land-based dredging within an active port environment. This required overcoming numerous challenges: sensitive marine conditions, fluctuating tides and regulatory oversight for environmental protection. The project needed to proceed without disrupting daily port operations, requiring precise planning and real-time responsiveness. The Solution
Norwest Group mobilised an excavator-mounted dredge head and GPS-enabled earthmoving equipment to undertake the dredging and relocation works. Our internal logistics team supplied all required materials, while our experienced operators managed daily coordination with port authorities to work within the live operational zone. We implemented environmental controls and daily site monitoring to mitigate impact on adjacent marine areas. Drawing on our local knowledge and equipment availability, we staged the works to meet access windows and delivery milestones.

This project involved delivering subdivision works for residential land release. Norwest Group was engaged for full-scope site preparation, including trenching, road formation and pad construction under tight scheduling constraints.
The Challenge
Development WA required full-scale civil works for a residential land release, including road construction, drainage systems and service corridors. The remote location posed logistical challenges and a strict delivery schedule was enforced due to funding and planning milestones. High standards of compliance and communication were also required, as the works had to align with government protocols, community engagement plans and multi-stakeholder timelines.
The Solution

Evaporation Pond & Dredging Support

The Challenge
The project involved the excavation of large-scale evaporation ponds and supporting marine works in an area with high-moisture soils and access constraints. The biggest challenge was maintaining productivity while sequencing works around other contractors on site. Additionally, the ground profile required careful shaping to ensure adequate water retention and environmental regulations governed material movement and disposal. The team needed to balance accuracy, volume and environmental compliance while keeping the works within the port’s larger project programme.
The Solution
Norwest Group mobilised GPS-enabled earthmoving equipment and experienced operators to deliver shaping and excavation works to specification. We implemented a staged delivery plan that aligned with the marine contractor’s schedule, avoiding delays to interconnected activities. Water management controls were introduced to stabilise the site during excavation. Our crushing and screening equipment processed materials for reuse, while internal logistics supported efficient haulage and on-site distribution. The team also provided regular updates to ensure transparent progress reporting.
The Result
The evaporation ponds were completed on time and in accordance with project specifications, providing long-term environmental functionality for the port site.
